PPE Safety FAQ (Frequently Asked questions)

Below are a collection of commonly asked questions we receive from our UK visitors. If you need any further help or advice, please do not hesitate to contact us and we'll be happy to help. Please note that the answers apply only to our UK customers.

What is PPE?

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) means all equipment (including clothing giving protection against the weather) which is worn or held to protect against risks to health or safety.
  • The main legislation governing PPE at work is the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992 (see below).

What are the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992?

  • It is now a legal responsibility for Employers to ensure that suitable PPE is provided to employees exposed to a risk to their health or safety. E.g. high visibility clothing for those working roadside and waterproof clothing for those working outdoors. A risk assessment may be required to identify the suitability of the PPE to be provided. Employers must also ensure that the PPE is maintained in efficient working order and in good repair. Suitable accommodation must be provided for its safe storage, with any contaminated or defective items being segregated.

Do your products meet any standards?

  • Our products meet strict European Standards, as indicated by the CE mark.
  • EN (European Norm) numbers also help to identify the standards that the product/garment conforms to.

What are the Noise at Work regulations?

  • The Noise at Work regulations were replaced by The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 on 6 th April 2006 (European Directive 2003/10/EC). This reduced the noise exposure limits and action levels. Under the new regulations hearing protection and training must be made available where noise levels exceed 80dB.
